One outcome stemming from Alberta’s economic downturn, that had resulted from the drop in the price of oil back in 2014, is the falling price of rental accommodations in Calgary and Edmonton. According to the latest data from the Consumer Price Index, this rental market drop will prove to be a benefit to the renter, but bear a cost burden to the typical landowner – unless you are an Armchair Landlord that is!

Rental rates within the Armchair Landlord program do not fluctuate the same way traditional landlords encounter.  Armchair Landlords benefit from above-market rents that are fixed for 3-year terms. With fixed rate leases and long-term stable tenants, there are no vacancy issues, so a dip in the residential rental market does affect an Armchair Landlord.
